Definition of a reference framework for inventory management of cyberconnected rail technological assets

01/2018

Throughout the year 2018 in Montreal, the team assisted a major Canadian railway company reconsider its Sotware Solution Architecture in strengthening the Management of its Service Assets and Configurations as part of a program to secure cyber-connected technological elements.

This project allowed us to work on the enhancement of inventory data of various technological components required and used to operate the key services of rail freight operations.

We organized the project in four main stages :

  1. Preliminary analysis and project planning
  2. Stakeholder meetings and organization of a Service Asset Management and Configuration Governance table
  3. Drafting a functional solution architecture, highlighting the required Management Capabilities and the data classes to be managed
  4. Analysis and recommendations regarding the organization of inventory data in a Service Management approach

The total effort of the project represented nearly 1400 hours of work, spread among 3 advisors of our Technology Services Management Consulting squad. The project was successfully completed over a period of almost a year and a half.
